I just saw this article and can not believe that they are extending his contact for three more years. He will turn 82 on Sunday! YES 82!!! I just think it is crazy but I guess how can they fire a legend. PR would have to step in then...

Nothing Ventured Nothing Gained
I have heard my Dad say SO many times, "Nothing ventured...Nothing gained". Today it hit me that this completely makes sense, and we should all live our lives by this quote. It makes sense because if we go through life not asking questions and trying new thing then we will never know what is out there for us to experience. There have been so many times when I want to question something or want to try but I don't. WHY? Why not Katie?!!?
Today after Bateman, I decided to walk over to the Admissions and Financial Office to ask a few questions. At first, I really didn't want to and I had no clue what I was going to say. I thought it was going to be stupid because I was going to go in with nothing to really ask. But, I said to myself, "You just never know..." and I thought this could help my group. WOW! The financial aid director was SO nice and she asked questions that stimulated my brain. I gained so much by going and talking with her for 20 minutes.
After going and talking with her I thought to myself, how many times have I thought something was stupid or pointless and skipped? Now I wonder how beneficial these events or actions could have been if I would have gotten over myself!!
My goal is to try to stop over thinking and doubting different activities or events. I want to venture outside of my comfort zone and see what I can experience. Like dad says... "Nothing ventured, nothing gained!"

Intramurals Baby!
So pumped because tonight is the start of intramurals. Oh baby...This is such a high point of the year because all the volleyball girls get to do their thing on the basketball court. For the first time in the year we are actually able to take aggression out on people from the other team. That is one part of volleyball that at times isn't cool. :) Sometime you get frustrated and just need to shove someone... but you can't with a net and center line in between the two teams. The only thing a volleyball player can do is on the other side of the net... so...pretty much nothing at all.
Either way, I am so excited for the first game. I am such a competitor and now that my volleyball career has ended I am looking for any and everything to compete in. This is just the beginning. I can not wait to run up and down the court tonight and try to show off a few skills.
Go Vball Girls Go!

Shooting Yourself in the leg...Explain please!
I usually watch ESPN on a daily bases and all I have heard about is the incident with Plaxico Burress. WOW. First is floors me that you can carry a loaded gun and manage you shoot yourself in the leg. Carrying a loaded gun is illegal and I understand that, but the part that scares me is people who have guns can manage to shoot themselves on "accident". How would you ever know what might happen when people like this are carrying guns?
To go along with this I am tired of hearing what might happen and if he will ever play for the Gaints again. Honestly, he should get punished fully for his actions and if he is going to play football again should not be the main concern at this point in the case.
First off, It just blows my mind that this incident took place and secondly, I can't believe that we are discussing it on ESPN for two straight days and thirdly, we are worried about if Burress will ever play football for the Giants again. Crazy.

Playing Within Yourself
Have you ever wanted something so bad that you over think and almost work too hard for it? I honestly know that that makes no sense at all but grrrr, I think that way right now with volleyball. I want so bad for our team to succeed that I feel like I am over thinking certain plays and movements.
As a captain to do not want to come across as questioning or stressing to the rest of my teammates but it is so hard. I want everyone to play their best volleyball this weekend so so so bad. But how do I get them to do that without freaking them out or freaking out myself.
I think my best bet is to just play within myself and to the best of my ability, and only expect the rest from my teammates. But that is SO hard at times! Either way... we can only worry about our side of the net and effect our play. Whatever the other team does is their business.
It's time to step up Bears and play to the level that is deep within us. The key is to play within ourselves.

Worries about the Future
After listening to Janelle Steele tonight at PRSSA I started to worry about what I am going to do after college. I was sitting there listening to her talk about how she truly does not enjoy her job and accepted the position because she needed an income. I never want to be in a position/job that I do not enjoy. :(
That is one fear I have in life. That I will be stuck in a position that I do not want to be in but I can not leave or say no. WOW! But the way the economy is right now, how easy is it going to be to say no to a job offer because how many offers will someone get??
Then...my next thought process is lets just go unto graduate school to further my education now. Due to the way the economy is maybe the best choice is to go onto graduate school and then have a better chance of obtaining a job in the future.
What am I going to do though?? What is the right choice?? What path do I want to take?? I wish the answers were laid out in front of me but they are not. What if I make the wrong decision? My future is so up in the air and that worries me SO much.

Gas Prices...Empty Gas Tank?
Check this out... http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/10/26/gas.prices/index.html
Gas Prices are lowering!!! I can not believe it! When I was in Texas this past weekend they were extremely low. Also, in Ada, OH the gas prices are 30 or 40 cent more than the prices in Lima, OH. Crazy!!
I am just so excited that the prices are lowering and my gas tank is close to "E".

Student Athlete Advisory Committee
The Student Athlete Advisory Committee is an unknown group to many athletes and non-athletes on campus. Yet, it is a great organization that I started being a part of my sophomore year and now I am the president of the group. It wasn't until this year that I realized how important SAAC is to the athletic department and programs.
SAAC is made up of representatives from all the different sports teams on campus. We work with getting interaction between all the teams, establish relationships between faculty and athletes, promote all the games/matches and work with the legislation of the NCAA. It is awesome!!
Then today I attended the OAC SAAC meeting and we were able to talk about the different rule changes that are up for voting and exchange ideas with other OAC SAACs. It was so fun and interesting to hear about what is going on on other campuses and maybe even steal a few ideas! :)
Anyways, I now understand the important of having SAAC and why it is a part of athletics. I hope that we can make a difference this year and be an active organization.

Politics... Blah!
I am interested in giving my vote for who will being running our country for the four years but I hate all the bullcrap, personal comments and lying that goes along with it. I am extremely worried about our nation because of the current economy and I know it is not going to get better real soon. So...the importance of a strong, effective leader for our country is key.
Yet... I struggle to watch debates because of all the rude comments that come along. I am not a type of person to rip on someones personal life when it has nothing to do with topic being discussed. WHY? Stick to the discussion and important topics. Why do we need to discuss candidates families or other personal issues? I think that is why I am so turned off my politics.
In addition, I hate the fact that I honestly don't believe very much that the candidates say. I know that they are just saying what they think the people want to hear and maybe not truly what they are going to do when in office. That really bothers me. I mean a lot!
Anyways, I am going to try to stay interested in politics and the presidential race but it is not going to be easy with all the outside distractions and comments.

OAC Volleyball Underway
We finally had our first OAC game Friday at John Carroll. How pumped was I?? Super!! You play the first month of your season to improve and get better, so that once OAC begins you are at the top of your game. Conference is the season. It is the heart of the season and then hopefully it leads you right into the NCAA Tournament.
We were so pumped as a team... yet we didn't play well when the game actually happened. At times that is so tough to understand. How can we emotionally be excited and then physically not play well. Those two just do not add up in my mind. It is so difficult at times because in your mind you are stoked and prepared to play, but then you can not get your body to do what it is suppose to do. Confusion!
We have a huge week this next week because we play 3 home OAC matches. Not only are there 3 but we have tough opponents. Tuesday we play Heidelberg, Friday we have Mount Union and Saturday we end with Marietta. All I want is to play to our potential and leave everything out on the floor. I do not want to leave any of the games left in our season with regrets or questions. We are such a good team and I want to show everyone!
It is all about BELIEVING... Lets do it Bears!

Frustrations of Growth
There are times in life when you struggle and stress because life is throwing so many curve balls. This happens all the time in college because you feel like you have just gotten caught up with all your studies, and then you enter the classroom to find that there is another assignment, paper or reading due tomorrow.
I hate the feeling of "catching up", but I hate even more when you feel like you are ahead of the game but really aren't. Lately I have been trying to stay on top of my studies because of volleyball and other stresses in my life. Yet, it always ends up that a major school assignment comes due the second I get ahead of the game. Why?
I have come to the conclusion that I am learning life lessons. In the "real world" there will always be new challenges and obstacles. College is a trial period when you can work and work to get ahead to only have your bubble burst....just like the real world. So, I am going to grow from my challenges and frustrations and know that they are preparing me for the "real world".

My first BLOG!!
I asked Alisa to go through different PR media channels with me and the first one we went over was BLOGGING! I am so excited to learn the basics of blogging and start my own blog. I have learned how to change my profile and get linked in with other bloggers. There is no way I can explain how excited I am about the start to my blogging career. It is only the beginning...
